She, Sohini, poet and young journalist, decides to look for her childhood love, Sagnik. He, an eternal student, gets in over his head with gambling debts. A game of lovers’ hide and seek in the crowded maze of Calcutta. Bengali Variation refers to that very thing – a constant musical variation – an open process in perpetual motion, with camera work that pulsates like the streets of Calcutta. Each of us will ask ourselves whether the story is in the text or in the interstices, or whether both intersect, provoking a movement of escape.
