A conversation/interview is always an opportunity to enter an artist’s world of work in a more fluid and direct way. Carla Maia has already organised a retrospective of the filmmaker/writer work in Brazil, and joins FICLA this year to engage in a dialogue with Trinh T. Minh-ha about her work (books and films).
Carla Maia holds a PhD in Social Communication from FAFICH/UFMG, with a sandwich period at Tulane University in New Orleans/USA. She is a professor at the Institute of Communication and Arts and runs the post-graduate course in Audiovisual Production – Documentary, both at UNA University Center. She has organized several film festivals and debates, as a curator and/or producer. Among these are: retrospectives of Chantal Akerman, Naomi Kawase, Pedro Costa and Rithy Panh. She is a Co-director of the documentary Roda (2011). She is also a member of the Filmes de Quintal collective, which organizes forum doc. bh: Belo Horizonte Documentary and Ethnographic Film Festival.
